Jasmine Cephas Jones recalls Hamilton’s opening night

Jasmine Cephas Jones is remembering the electric energy of Hamilton’s opening night.

In a talk with Us Weekly on Sunday, June 8, at New York City’s Rockefeller Center, the 35-year-old American-British actress reminisced about the star-studded opening night back in 2015 before the cast of Hamilton: An American Musical reunited on stage at the 2025 Tony Awards to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Jasmine, the daughter of late actor Ron Cephas Jones, said, “When we opened, it was like a rock show. I remember Lin [Manuel-Miranda, the writer and star] came out and it reminded me of, like, when Michael Jackson performed at the Super Bowl.”

“He just stood there and he took his glasses off and people were just screaming. Like, that’s how it was when Lin first came out [to take his bow]. I remember feeling like this crazy adrenaline rush, and it was so strong that I almost, like, blacked out,” she recalled.

For the unversed, on Hamilton: An American Musical, which chronicles the life of historical figure Alexander Hamilton, Jasmine played the roles of Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds when it was off-Broadway and on Broadway.

It is noteworthy to mention that the Blindspotting star left the show in December 2016 but she was a part of a special “mixtape” performance at the 2025 Tony Awards on Sunday, June 8.
