Leighton Meester finally broke silence on the death of her late Gossip Girl costar Michelle Trachtenberg.

In an interview with Flaunt magazine, the 39-year-old actress said that Michelle’s passing hit especially hard, knowing that they were the same age when she breathed her last.

“It’s devastating,” said Leighton. “She was a wonderful, talented person, and everyone loved her. “

The That’s My Boy star further said, “It’s very, very sad for everyone who knew her.”

“Now, I can see that [the show’s legacy] continues — in some ways, even more so than back then — to live on, which is incredible,” added Leighton.

For those unversed, Michelle was found unresponsive in her New York City apartment on February 26. She was 39.

On April 15, the NYC Office of Chief Medical Examiner confirmed to People magazine that the actress’s death was a result of complications of diabetes mellitus.

Additionally, Leighton and Michelle formed friendships while starring in the hit TV show Gossip Girl.
