Prince William is expected to rely on his Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie as key senior royals when he becomes the king, said a report after the five-day Royal Ascot came to an end.

King Charles and Queen Camilla were regular attendees at the event as they led royal processions for the five consecutive days during the sweltering summer heat.

The king was joined by Prince William for only one day while his wife Kate Middleton skipped her attendance as last-minute changes to the schedule.

According to The Mirror, is planning to modernize the royal family when he becomes King, including reassigning key roles. 

The report said that he is reportedly uncomfortable with horse racing, a passion of King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the late Queen Elizabeth II, and may delegate the royal racing calendar, including Royal Ascot, to Zara Tindall, an Olympian equestrian. 

Quoting sources the publication reported that William recognizes Ascot’s importance but prefers a less hands-on role compared to past monarchs. 

“As senior royals like the Duke of Kent, Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and Princess Anne are expected to reduce their duties due to age, William is considering non-working royals such as Zara’s husband Mike Tindall, her brother Peter Phillips, and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie for more prominent roles,” reported the publication.
